Trout in the Classroom Central

A hands-on, interdisciplinary STEM experience engages 4th-grade students at Central Elementary School. Students raise trout in a classroom aquarium and release them into a nearby watershed, studying life cycles, aquatic ecosystems, and water quality through data collection and scientific observation. By caring for live organisms, students develop teamwork, responsibility, and empathy for the environment. The aquarium is housed in the STEM classroom, allowing PreK–5 students to observe and engage with the project, supporting vertical curriculum alignment.
