Learning Through Oysters Research Project

This grant funds the implementation of an Oyster Research Tank (ORT) through the purchase of consumable materials for this school year. Through the ORT, students learn about oysters, the history of oysters in New York Harbor, their role in the ecosystem, and the importance of restoring natural oyster populations. Students practice inquiry-based learning and authentic research. Students become comfortable with handling oysters, gathering data from oyster shells, analyzing data provided by the Billion Oyster Project, and understanding and conducting water chemistry testing.
