Overview

Since 1996, the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation (MSF) has awarded over 650 grants totaling more than $5.75 million—and over 90% of all funds raised go directly to grants.

Imagine a community where innovation thrives in every classroom—where teachers can try new ideas, and students are constantly challenged and inspired. That’s the vision MSF supports every day.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, independent of the Mamaroneck School District, run entirely by passionate parent volunteers. We award grants for projects initiated by teachers, administrators, or students that go beyond the regular school budget, enhancing the educational experience for every student in our district.

Mission Statement


The mission of MSF is to enhance the quality of public education in Larchmont and Mamaroneck by engaging educators, parents, students, alumni, and community members to raise funds for grants that:

  • Strengthen and enrich the curriculum with innovative, meaningful programs.
  • Support professional development and enhance resources for faculty.
  • Fund special school facilities and equipment.


Note: MSF does not provide regular operating funds to the school district.

How We Fund

MSF offers three types of grants: Teacher Grants, Fast Track Grants, and Student Grants. These grants are funded through a combination of MSF operating funds and income from two named endowments.

Sources of MSF Operating Funds

Our operating funds are primarily raised through:

  • Three major annual fundraising events
  • Our year-end appeal
  • Individual donations throughout the year

These funds are essential in supporting our ongoing grant programs.

Building for the Future

Over the past decade, MSF has also been growing a general MSF Endowment to ensure long-term sustainability. Once we begin drawing from this endowment, it will serve as an additional source of funding for our grant programs, helping to amplify MSF’s impact.

Named Endowments Supporting Grants

In addition to operating funds, MSF generates funds for grants from two dedicated endowments:

The Barbara Bennett-Rones Memorial Endowment. Established in 2002, in memory of Barbara Bennett-Rones, this endowment funds annual grants supporting diversity initiatives, arts programs, students with special needs, and community service projects.

The Diane G. Millstein Memorial Endowment. Created in 2011, this endowment honors Diane G. Millstein’s generosity, funding programs that aid students with special needs; support reading, writing, and literacy programs; promote individual athletics (fencing, wrestling, tennis, etc.); and encourage girls in science and mathematics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Even in a community with strong local support and high taxes, there’s so much that goes into a well-rounded educational experience. For nearly 30 years, MSF has funded initiatives outside of the district’s budget. Our grants give teachers, students, and administrators the resources to bring creativity and passion into the classroom, keeping learning dynamic, relevant, and impactful.

Both MSF and PTAs play essential roles in supporting our schools:

  • MSF focuses on the broader academic and extracurricular mission, raising funds to award grants that enhance curriculum, support innovative programs, promote faculty development, and fund special facilities and equipment. By funding initiatives outside the district’s operating budget, MSF helps sustain long-term educational excellence.
  • PTAs foster community connections and raise funds for immediate needs and school-specific activities, like field trips and events.

MSF meets monthly and welcomes new volunteers! We also host several signature events throughout the year, including the MSF Jr. Triathlon and the Spring Benefit.
